Few bands embody the adventurous, community-minded spirit of West Virginia’s music scene quite like Huntington’s Massing, and their latest release is a perfect example of why.

To celebrate the anniversary of their 2021 EP Nothin’ To Fear, Massing has released Nothin’ 2 Fear (The Remixes), a reimagining of the original project that brings together an impressive lineup of collaborators from across the Mountain State and beyond. More than a collection of alternate versions, the EP feels like a celebration of friendship, creativity, and the vibrant network of artists that continue to push West Virginia music forward.

The project showcases the elasticity of Massing’s songwriting, with each remixer bringing a distinct personality to the material while preserving the emotional core of the original songs. At a time when collaboration has become increasingly important to independent music communities, this EP serves as a reminder of what can happen when artists build each other up rather than compete for space.

For West Virginia music fans, the guest list alone makes this release worth exploring. From the indie-folk stylings of The Long Lost Somethins to the genre-bending creativity of SMITH.b, Emmalea Deal & the Hot Mess, Charlie Brown Superstar, Dinosaur Burps, and Buni Muni, the EP doubles as a showcase of the diverse talent thriving throughout the state.

The release also carries a deeper emotional weight. According to Massing’s Heath Holley, the project arrives three years after the passing of the band’s vocalist and friend, Jake Wheeler. In that context, Nothin’ 2 Fear (The Remixes) becomes more than an anniversary release. It’s a tribute, a celebration of connection, and a testament to the lasting impact of the music and relationships that helped shape the band.

Massing has long been one of West Virginia’s most creative and consistently compelling acts, and this remix collection only reinforces that reputation. More importantly, it demonstrates the power of artists working together across scenes, genres, and cities to create something bigger than themselves.

Simply put, this is the kind of project we’d love to see more of from West Virginia musicians. Collaborative, ambitious, and rooted in community, Nothin’ 2 Fear (The Remixes) is both a worthy revisit of a standout release and a reminder of just how strong the Mountain State’s music scene can be when artists come together.
