Tyler Childers released his full length album “Snipe Hunter.” This album saw him team up with lauded and sometimes divisive producer Rick Rubin. Rubin’s style seems to leave most fans in one of two camps: love or hate. We personally love what happened with these two teaming up and the final result. “Snipe Hunter” is an extravagantly wild ride that takes you through the madman like mind of Childers. One of our favorite tracks is “Cuttin’ Teeth” which sees Tyler taking on the narrative of his rise to success from the perspective of someone who may have played a gig or two with him as he came up. A line of note is “Frontin’ him a country band, A buncha West Virginia deadbeats, man.” This line is a veiled reference to the band Deadbeats and Barkers who Tyler met as he established himself in West Virginia. The band went on to become Childers’ backing band and the rest is history. Listen to “Cuttin’ Teeth” below.

A Story Told declared it AST Summer with their newest drop “State Of The Art” and we are inclined to agree. This track is another pop banger from this Charleston trio that shows off their prowess to combine sincere lyrics with upbeat music and melodies. We hope there is more coming from them soon because we wouldn’t mind an AST Fall or Winter. Listen below.
Philip Bowen and Charles Wesley Godwin have teamed up once again and this time you’d better bring your tissues. The pair teamed up on the Bowen led track “Blue As Water” to discuss the topic of a miscarriage. The first time we heard it was in a car while driving and it had us bawling. They address the issue with a gentleness and an empathy only these two can pull off. Philip has a way of broaching hard topics that many could never do. Again, grab the tissues and listen below.
Hip Hop artist Zeandre Jones teamed up with Adrian Michael and Lovy Elias to release “Rebirth.” Let’s pause here and remind you that if you’re sleeping on WV hip hop you’re missing out on an entire group of extremely talented artists and this song is another testament to that. Between the lyrics, instrumentation and vocals this song shows why these artists should be garnering national attention. Check out “Rebirth” below.
Adam Yokum puts out music at a furious pace, like a man singing for his life and we are here for it. His new song “water your roots” is a plea to not forget where you come from and hold fast to those things as you grow and change in life. Check it out below.
