Bluegrass, Hip Hop and Metal… this is the diversity of the West Virginia music scene wrapped up in one New Release feature. Bluegrass featuring a guest spot from Tim O’Brien, hip hop from Stereophonic and Metal from Lo-Pan are all here in our new releases from the last few weeks.

Tim O’Brien joined Alison Brown and Steve Martin as a featured vocalist and mandolin player on their track “5 Days Out, 2 Days Back.” This track has a huge cast of bluegrass heavyweights that is rounded out by Bryan Sutton and Stuart Duncan. There isn’t any flashy lead riffs here. Just a solid song that tells a story played by some amazing musicians. Listen to it below.

Lo-Pan is a metal band based in Ohio but featuring two West Virginians in the lineup. They have released their full length album “Get Well Soon” from Magnetic Eye Records. The nine track LP is full of headbanging tracks that juxtapose heavy riffs alongside of melodic vocals that show off the versatility of this four piece. You can stream the entire album below.
