December has come in with quite a cold streak to kick off the final month of 2024. But the music of the mountain state is showing no sign of cooling down with it. New releases from Sam Eplin, Trevor Cooke and The Holler Hounds will help keep you warm this cold weekend.

Sam Eplin has released a new track today entitled “Alice.” The song recounts the stories of other loves surrounding the songwriter while his focus is on the one he let slip away due to his own negligence. The folk driven track is replete with some fantastic instrumentation that lays the groundwork for Sam’s wonderful voice to tell this story. The mix on this song shows off why we love listening to Eplin and have yet to hear a song from him that we don’t love. Listen to “Alice” below.
Trevor Cooke has dropped the first single from his upcoming album “Love Languages” which will release in March. The single “Missed Connections” sees Cooke step back from his high energy hip hop delivery for a more subdued approach that is reminiscent of early Twenty One Pilots. This song is a longing for some past connections and a frustration with the things that have gotten in the way. The production and music here are well done and, as always, Trevor presents a well crafted hook that will be in your head for a long time. Listen below.
The Holler Hounds have become a favorite around the Born & Bred offices. The country act are fantastic storytellers led by vocalist Jesse Lee Pritt. They weave narratives that get you invested in the story that keep you engaged from start to finish. This isn’t background music. They require you to listen and engage with the content which is refreshing and that remains true on their newest release “Turn Away.” If you don’t listen you’ll miss the story and you do not want to miss this. This is the longing of a father wanting his son to turn from the things that will lead to an early demise and feeling like you’ve failed your kids. Listen to the song below and get the tissues.
