People in the Charleston area were saddened this morning to see a post on the social channels of Budget Tapes & Records announcing their retirement and imminent closing. The store which has been a part of the community for fifty-two years was a focal point of the Charleston music community. The self described “hippest record store and lifestyle emporium” announced an immediate sale on all products and a closing date of this Sunday, March 3rd.

Closures like this are always emotional, and understandably so, for many in the community as they feel like they are losing a family member and not just a store. While this is sad for those who shop there and made it a part of their life, it’s a well deserved outcome for the Budget family. We at Born & Bred wish them all the best.
And don’t forget while it’s sad to see them go there are still many locally owned options throughout the state of West Virginia to satisfy your music itch. More on that soon.
