It is our mission to highlight the varying artists that exist all across the state and to give them a platform to be seen and heard.
Blackmon Thompson is a country act hailing from Nallen and Huntington West Virginia. We spoke with Scott Thompson of the group about the band and his influences.
BB: Where in West Virginia do you come from and where does the band hail from?
SB: I am from NC, but live in Nallen, West Virginia. My wife and family are from here. I have lived here 2 yrs and love West Virginia. My bandmates are West Virginia natives of the Huntington area.
BB: Who are some of the influences on your music and writing style?
SB: I am influenced by a lot of 80s and 90s country. Living in West Virginia has given me a fresh outlook on life and the sheer beauty of this state influences me to shoot for the moon. Our sets are Entertaining, energetic, we bring a show and involve the crowd in many ways.

BB: Who are some West Virginian artists you’re listening to?
SB: I listen to Jesse Lee from Ivydale. He is special and I mean that from my heart.
BB: What else are you listening to currently?
SB: I listen to all music for inspiration. A good song is simply a good song no matter the genre.
BB: What inspired you to go down the path of music?
SB: Growing up in the 80s, MTV was it. I always wanted to be a part of it and just pick up an instrument and learn all I can about it.
BB: What is one song you want people to listen to from your catalog if they were to say, “Hey what do you sound like?”
SB: “Picture Perfect”. It is straight kicking country! Try it out but hold on tight.
BB: Anything else you want our readers to know about Blackmon Thompson?
SB: My music journey has evolved from being laughed at and every door shut in my face to never giving up on my talents and dreams. I went from barely a gig to a top booked act in Myrtle Beach SC 2021- 2022 and it was work but fun. I am now turning the road to Nashville, recording and producing my own material. We are taking a year off to focus on that and plan on taking the picture perfect tour all over West Virginia in 2024. We have high expectations and our work speaks for itself. I want to give props to the Thompson part of Blackmon Thompson. Titus Thompson is WV homegrown in Huntington, a combat Marine veteran, a great drummer and friend. I am grateful and honored to be a small part of Born & Bred here in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia! West Virginia has been a blessing to my soul. John Denver sang it best, West Virginia heaven on earth.
