Samuel James just delivered a powerful dose of raw, acoustic honesty with his new single, “People Change.” The West Virginia singer-songwriter doesn’t shy away from the difficult truth that friendships and relationships are fleeting, calling the painful reality of impermanence “inevitable.” The reflective track was born one night after a conversation with his best friend, Samuel explains:
It’s inevitable that People Change. I started writing this one night after a conversation with my best friend and his situation. I was able to get a verse and a chorus but was stumped on more to tell. That’s when I brought in friend, songwriter, and producer, Zach Schlake to craft it into what made the final cut. I find myself coming back to this song as change is constant. I decided to try my hand at harmonica and this one fell suit. I’m glad to give you a studio recording that is how you would catch me at your local venues, one guitar, one vocal, one artist.

This song feels like a soul-cleansing Sunday drive down a back road in the fall. And just like the inescapable reality of leaves changing and giving way to winter, life will always be full of people changing and going in and out of our lives like the seasons. Listen to Samuel James – “People Change”
How does it go from tugging on the covers
To asking strangers their favorite colors?
Each time the wind blows I feel it’s bite
It seems this happens all the time
We’ve had days on the sunny side of simple
And all the answers to when we were little
It’s the sharing of the ups and the downs
That makes the quiet the loudest of sounds
People make it through together
People make it through the weather
People grow and people dance in the rain
People love and people leave
People keep cards up their sleeve
Most of all, people change
People Change
I miss the calls for the late night plans
He’d always tell me, I’d be his best man
At the bar we’d go beer for beer
Now it’s a phone call maybe once a year
People make it through together
People make it through the weather
People grow and people dance in the rain
People love and people leave
People keep cards up their sleeve
Most of all, people change
People Change
People make it through together
People make it through the weather
People grow and people dance in the rain
People love and people leave
People keep cards up their sleeve
Most of all, people change
People Change
