Healing Appalachia kicked off the official day one of their festival last Thursday in Lewisburg, West Virginia at the State Fairgrounds. The evening featured rousing performances from Shadowgrass, Sierra Hull, Benjamin Tod and Lost Dog Street Band, and West Virginia darlin’ Sierra Ferrell. The evening was delayed as crews scrambled to cover gear and protect the sound as a major downpour hit the stage. Fortunately the evening went on and the rain moved out. Check out our pictorial review below.

Sierra Ferrell and her amazing band wowed the crowd with their performance. The audience sang at the top of their lungs as they belted out their favorites like “West Virginia Waltz.”

Benjamin Tod and Lost Dog Street Band showed how you do outlaw country.

Sierra Hull is a wizard on the mandolin and was a crowd pleaser as her infectious energy captivated the crowd.

Shadowgrass kicked things off after their set was interrupted by a heavy rain that hit their gear and caused them to change things up. In spite of this unfortunate turn of events they put on a great show.

One of the more powerful performances of the evening came from The Hill Country Devil , who just last year entered rehab after being challenged by Charlie Hatcher of Healing Appalachia to enter rehab and get treatment for his addiction.

Crowds poured in and danced as the first official day of Healing Appalachia got underway.
